The Jesse Helms Center highlights the life and principles of Jesse Helms, a native of the area who represented North Carolina for 30 years in the U.S. Senate. The center contains a replica of the Senator's former office in Washington, D.C., his senatorial papers, a United Nations exhibit and displays on recent presidents. Focusing on programs for students and teachers, the center hosts lectures, workshops and conferences on topics dealing with current national and international affairs. Located in the A.J. Fletcher Building, it is approximately 35 miles east of Charlotte.
